NFL Power Rankings: Green Bay Packers on top

There were upsets in the third week of the NFL that surprised millions of fans. First of all, the shocking defeat of the New England Patriots in the hands of the Buffalo Bills significantly altered the NFL Power Rankings. Buffalo Bills are for real as they have proven against the high-powered offense of the Patriots. Bills checked Tom Brady’s rhythm getting four interceptions.

Detroit Lions 3-0 start makes the league more interesting because the Lions are in focus of winning to be in the playoffs. Three consecutive wins at the start is some sort of a milestone for the Lions. We will see the team next week if they are for real like the Bills.

When we talk about the Packers, there’s nothing surprise at all when they defeated the Chicago Bills. As expected the Packers will be in the playoffs that the challenge right now on the division is from Detroit. Packers offensive attacks still the best in the league and their defense knows when to step up if needed. Yes, the Packers is on top of the NFL Power Rankings, they will always be on top until a team will challenge them.

After a disappointing defeat last week from the hands of the Tennessee Titans, Baltimore Ravens trampled St Louis Rams,37-7, making the Ravens to be back on the NFL Power Rankings top 10. Ravens defense surely is the key in advancing to the playoffs and that defense will improve in the coming days. We will rank Ravens in the second place in this week’s NFL Power Rankings.

The Patriots defeat slightly brought them down lower to the NFL Power Rankings. The Patriots will bounce back next week against the Raiders with that Brady’s offense. New England Patriots at the third spot this week.

San Diego Chargers win over Kansas City Chiefs may not be that impressive but they still won. Chargers defense is one of the toughest in the NFL and their offense will always be their because of Philip Rivers. We place the Chargers in the fourth place.

New Orleans Saints victory against Houston Texans was surely one of the high scoring games. Saints still have that offense from Drew Brees, however, they deserve to be in the second place but we will place them behind those three AFC teams. Saints at No 5.

Buffalo Bills will always be in the conversation when we talke about the NFL Power Rankings. With that win against the Patriots, we will place the Bills at No 6. This team is different from the past. It has the “swagger” that can help them to be in the playoffs.

As one of the few teams that are undefeated, the Detroit Lions deserves to be in the 7th place. Yes, the Lions are back in the chase and for the first time in many years, the Thanksgiving tradition game will not be a no bearing game for them.

At No 8, Pittsburgh Steelers will always be in the conversation in the NFL Power Rankings, though they defeated the short-handed Indianapolis Colts, still the Steelers can win games.

Despite of the loss from the Oakland Raiders, the New York Jets still is a strong team that can be back in the AFC Championship. It will be tougher this time because it is no longer a race against the Patriots in the division with the emergence of the Bll. Jets at No 9 in the NFL Power Rankings.

The tenth spot goes this time for the Houston Texans. Yes the Texans went on for a shootout against the Saints, though they failed to win still the offense showed that they are a contender and they might win their division without Peyton Manning for the Colts.

Patriots vs Bills: Tom Brady vs Ryan Fitzpatrick battle

New England travels to Buffalo for a showdown at the Ralph Stadium on Sunday as the NFL continues to deliver quality games on Sunday. Patriots look for another domination but it will be a different story this time because of the Bills ability to win games through their offense.

Tom Brady is showing to the world that he is the best quarterback by throwing a record-breaking 517 passing yards and four touchdowns over the Dolphins and 423 yards and three touchdowns against the Chargers last week. An impressive total of 940 yards in the first two games in the NFL. Brady’s performances allowed him to be on pace for 7,000 yards this season but many experts believe that he will slow down as the temperature gets cooler.

In this game against the Bills, Brady must show up again against a defense that has so much improvements compared to last years. Brady has to be sharper than ever today to make sure that the Patriots will win. Surely, it is not safe at all for the players of New England to think that Buffalo is a pushover team.

Brady completed 31 for 40 passes for 423 yards and three touchdowns. The high powered offense anchored by Brady delivered big against the tough defense of the Chargers. Deion Branch caught the ball eight times for 129 yards while Rob Gronkowski caught four times for 86 yards. Working on the slot, Welker had seven catches for 81 yards. Furthermore, Aaron Hernandez had seven catches for 62 yards. Chad Ochocinco caught two passes also for 45 yards.

Without a doubt, Brady found his targets with accuracy to fuel that offense beating that mounted defense of San Diego. What Brady successfully did was to spread the ball to his receivers enabling Patriots offense to stifle Chargers’.

The Patriots biggest problem in this game is on the defense for the team ranked 31st in the league. It was surprising to find out that the Patriots are terrible in defense that coach Bill Belichick has to fix this problem before everything is gone.

While the Patriots are third in the NFL with 73 points, the Bills lead the way with 79, and they could post another big number against New England’s 31st-ranked defense and banged-up secondary.

To complicate the matters, safeties Patrick Chung and Josh Barrett are fighting it up for thumb injuries. Moreover, Leigh Bodden has a thumb injury also that will affect his game as a cornerback.

Patriots defense is necessary in this game against an opponent which scored big in the past two games. As the biggest surprise of the season, Buffalo Bills scored more the the Patriots so far 79-73. This provides us the thought that Bills offensive game is a lot better this season.

In the season opener, the Bills trampled Kansas City Chiefs 41-7 that shocked millions of NFL fans around the world. In the second game while trailing 21-3 at halftime, the team came back to win, 38-35, through the winning touchdown pass of quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick to David Nelson.

Fitzpatrick completed 28 of 46 passes for 264 yards, three touchdowns with one interception. He managed the game enough to put his team into a victory against the Raiders. Fitzpatrick distributed to his receivers as the team needs those passes.

The running game is the strength of the Bills through runningback Fred Jackson was so powerful as he rushed eight times for 96 yards while David Nelson carried 10 times for 83 yards. In this game, the run might kill the Patriots defensive schemes because of how dominant the Bills installed the rush.

Also, if the Bills have to win this game, the defense must alleviate the passing game of the Patriots. We all know how Brady connects his passes and it is up for the Bills to stop him at all cause especially at the red zone.

Bills went on for a 4-12 record last season, now at 2-0 the team has a chance to make 2011 as their best start in 11 years. Well, Patriots own Bills as New England has a whooping 17-1 record in the last 18 games.

Tennessee Titans still fresh from their victory against the Baltimore Ravens will show to the world the they are one of the teams to reckon with. Jets vs Raiders will be a battle for defense but we all know that NY has the edge. Jets will keep their way to stay undefeated as they visit Oakland in the afternoon game.

Packers vs Bears will be a shootout. Expect for the Bears to be on the attacking mode most of the time. It is on the defense that the Bears must have to worry against Green Bay’s high powered offense.

Baltimore Ravens vs St Louis Rams will be a game that many will surely have to follow. After that devastating loss from Titans, Baltimore wants to bounce back. On the other hand, the Rams seek for the first win.

Giants vs Rams score: In MNF New York leads big in the third quarter

New York Giants have a commanding lead 28-9 against the St Louis Rams with 6 minutes left in the third quarter in the Monday Night Football.

The New York Giants are making touchdowns while the St Louis Rams making sure of the field goals. Giants already converted four touchdowns compared to Rams three touchdowns.

Early in the third quarter, Rams marched on to the filed with 60 yards in 3:11 minutes just to finish it in a field goal of Josh Brown. On the other hand, quarterback Eli Manning guided his team for 81 yards when Brandon Jacobs rad for nine yards touchdown.

Manning pulled off another 22-yard pass touchdown to Domenik Hixon in the second quarter. Furthermore, Giants Michael Boley had a 65 yard fumble return that placed the Giants lead bigger.

Quarterback Manning currently completed 13 of 23 passes for 147 yards and two touchdowns. Manning is leading the plays for the Giants as they keep on with the pressure on opponents defense.

Meanwhile, Sam Bradford of the the Rams has been dominant so far but is not making touchdowns. Bradford completed 17 of 34 passes for 289 yards but still he couldn’t connect for a touchdown.

On the other hand, Hakeem Nicks caught a three yards pass from Eli Manning in the first quarter removing the speculations that Nicks is not 100 percent in this game.

Pre Game:

It will surely be a tough game to manage for coach Tom Coughlin this season. Yes, he has a lot of things to do just for him to beat the Rams. In their first game, the Giants felt the defensive shortcomings by allowing Rex Grossman to amassed 305 yards and two touchdowns. The weak defensive game of the Giants will always be the problem in this game against the Rams.

Offensively, the NY Giants will continually attack through quarterback Manning who completed 18 for 32 for 288 yards. In that game against the Redskins, he had no touchdown pass at all.

Manning’s favorite receiver are Hakeem Nicks who caught seven times for 122 yards, Jake Ballard for 59 yards, and Mario Mannigham for 49 yards. Without a doubt, Manning has his reliable targets that this offense will eventually win games. However, the running game will play significant role in the offense. It failed to deliver in the first game because it lacks the aggressiveness.

However, Manning will be limited in options because top receiver Hakeem Nicks could probably out of this game because he suffered a knee injury in the first game. He has been the best receiver for the Giants last season with 79 catches for 1,052 yards. If he plays then he it’s great for the Giants.

St Louis has all the advantages in the world to win this game against New York. Offensively, the team can outplay the short-handed defense of the Giants while in the offense they can concentrate on other receivers if Nicks will not play for the Giants.

It will be a test for the rest of the Giants team to play with heart while the team hurts because of injured players. Surely, the Giants are prepared to win this game aggressively against the Rams.

Ravens vs Titans: Baltimore for real?

After a total domination the Baltimore Ravens face Tennessee Titans in one of the most anticipated NFL games on Sunday at the LP Field. Ravens total defensive power is still in the conversations of football fans around the nation, but can the team continue vs the Titans?

Tennessee Titans are coming off from an excruciating defeat in the hands of the Jacksonville Jaguars, 16-14. With Matt Hasselbeck at the quarterback, the team is ready to battle the Baltimore Ravens in all areas of the game. Of course Hasselbeck has to prepare himself for another turbulent game for him because the Ravens have that mounted defensive schemes for him.

Hasselbeck completed 21 of 34 passes for 263 yards and two touchdowns and one interceptions. He didn’t reached the 300-yard mark but his team still had that chance of winning. Hasselbeck is not disappointed in joining the Titans because he had wide receivers that connected with him.

Kenny Britt caught five passes for 136 yards while Nate Washington caught six passes for 67 yards enabling Hasselbeck to be comfortable at the pocket. He navigated the offense against the Jaguars with ease because of his receivers.

The rushing game was the problem for the Titans, running back Chris Johnson rushed nine times for only 24 yards. Johnson was not expected to play with that performance. Because of that, the Titans will have to suffer because of the lack of the running game. If they will fix the running game at the right time against the Ravens, then we will have a game.

Meanwhile, Baltimore Ravens created the noise in the NFL because of demolishing the Pittsburgh Steelers 37-5. Ravens complete and tough defense made it all for them. Ravens had three interceptions and had four fumbles that they recovered to make the NFL fans in awe with that performance. If it wouldn’t for the defense, the game could have gone the other way.

Baltimore Ravens offensive attacks also added to the burdens of the Steelers in that game. Quarteback Joe Flacco completed 17 of 29 passes for 224 yards and three touchdowns to make the team score in those turnovers. Flacco had been consistent throughout that game as he calmly delivered the necessary passes.

Wide receiver Anquan Boldwin had four receptions for 74 yards including a touchdown to help the Ravens to score. Also, Ed Dickson had five receptions for 59 yards while Dennis Pitta had two receptions for 45 yards to make the quarterback comfortable on his passes.

For Baltimore’s rushing game, Ray Rice carried 19 times for 107 yards to control the ground while he also caught four passes for 42 yards. It would be easier for the passing game of the Ravens if their running game is working.

The passing and rushing game coupled with the defensive schemes for the Ravens will surely deliver a win. Ravens physical game will surely be seen in this game especially on the defensive side. They can make the offense of the Titans be stagnant in this game if the Ravens will have that same defense that they applied to the Steelers.

Baltimore Ravens have been in the playoff twice in a row but haven’t entered deeper in the Super Bowl. With that defense, they can bring back the glory of their Super Bowl win in 2000.

Bears vs Saints: Expect for a shootout

The New Orleans Saints will play at home with a challenge from the Chicago Bears on Sunday at the Louisiana Superdome. The Saints were disappointed with that season opener defeat against the Green Bay Packers but this is the time to be back.

Saints were in a shootout offensively against the Packers from the start but they weren’t able to pull the victory despite the fact that the team had played with offensive aggressiveness. There’s something lacking for the Saints to be a team to beat in the NFC, they have to fix it today against the visiting Bears.

Offensively the Saints accumulated 477 yards total but at the end of the game when they needed that touchdown, they were stopped at the one yard line by the Packers. Furthermore, Drew Brees went on to complete 32 of 49 passes for 419 yards and three touchdowns. It was a magnificent offensive attack for Brees but when it counts, the team faded.

Brees has with him great receivers who will stay in the course of this season. Devery Henderson caught six passes for 100 yards and Marques Colston caught also six times for 81 yards. Furthermore in the receiving end, Darren Sproles had seven receptions for 75 yards while Robert Meachem had five receptions for 70 yards. Brees easily hit his targets as the Packers defense gave them that room to run and catch the ball.

With the offensive firepower of the Saints in the passing area, it wasn’t sufficient to lead them to win that game. Yes, the running game was anemic at all as running back Mark Ingram carried 13 times for only 40 yards not giving the team enough yards to keep them alive in that game.

Saints are known to have the balance offensive attacks though the air and ground in the past two years. In this game against the Bears, there is a needed adjustments most especially in the offensive line to give Ingram the spaces and holes to run through. If Ingram will be able to run for at least 100 yards, then the Saints will have a greater chance of winning.

Meanwhile, the Chicago Bears surprisingly defeated Atlanta Falcons 30-12 in the season opener. Surely it is the defensive end that the made it all for the Bears not allowing the Falcons to score any touchdown but give up four field goals.

The Bears through Brian Urlacher’s leadership defended well against the offensive attacks of quarterback Matt Ryan who never got any touchdown. Yes, the mounted defense of the Bears was the key in their season opener. But how about taking care of the high powered offense of the Saints this time?

In the win of the Bears against the Falcons, it is obvious that the offense was so effective against the Falcons. Quarterback Jay Cutler threw 22 for 32 passes for 312 yards and two touchdowns. Cutler played solidly in controlling the tempo as their spread offense was successful enough for them to win the game.

His favorite target was running back Matt Forte who caught five passes for 90 yards while he also rushed 16 times for 68 yards. Forte was flexible in the rushing and passing play of the Bears that provided the team the advantage in the offense.

Chargers vs Patriots: Tom Brady faces a tougher defense

The San Diego Chargers will face the New England Patriots on Sunday at the Gillette Stadium. Chargers vs Patriots is considered the marquee game in the NFL because of the caliber performances of the two teams last week.

San Diego is not intimidated at all by the New England’s total of 622 yards against the Miami Dolphins. The Chargers are focus in limiting that passing game of the Patriots just what the they did to the Minnesota Vikings. With all the Chargers improvements, the defense is on top of that because of what they did to the Vikings by allowing only 39 passing yards to quarterback Donovan McNabb.

In that defense, McNabb had only one touchdown as he was sacked twice and intercepted once. The mounted defense of the Chargers did all the damage in overwhelming the Vikings. That same defense will be tested against the New England Patriots that made the most accumulated yards in week one of the NFL

Quarterback Philip Rivers completed 33 of 48 for 335 yards with two touchdowns but with two interceptions. Rivers was phenomenal in his passing game as he connected to his targets most of the time. Many are expecting Rivers to be more creative and aggressive in throwing his passes to the receivers. We all know that Rivers is capable of leading this team to the playoffs and even the Super Bowl.

Antonio Gates had 74 yards for eight catches while Ryan Matthews had 73 yards for three catches. Furthermore, Michael Tolbert caught 9 passes for 58 yards and two touchdowns. Chargers are explosive if this unit goes togetther in the offense.

The running game may be a little of a shallow for the Chargers and that the team should fix it before they play the Patriots. The passing will not be that effective if you don’t that rushing capability as a team.

The defense of the Chargers will be in a gigantic collision against the offense of the the Patriots. If the Chargers will limit Brady into less than 100 yards in throwing, then the Chargers will win. It is up to the defense of the Chargers to win this game.

For the New England Patriots, it will be a task for the team to play with such high power offense that originates from Tom Brady whose performance last week has entered into the record books.

The offensive game of the Patriots amassing 622 total yards is the best in the history of the of the Patriots and fifth in the NFL. The well oiled machine offense made immediate impact to the teams that the Patriots will face in the coming weeks.

Brady accumulated 517 passing yards and four touchdowns which include a 99-yard touchdown pass to Wes Welker. Brady played solidly following the playbook that coach Bill O’Brien installed for the team this season. Brady connected with his receivers and he also passed with such degree of difficulties that the receivers caught most of his passes.

Expect for Brady to make most of his throws to his favorite receivers Deion Branch, Wes Welker, and Chad Ochocinco who is ready to be a better player this game. Furthermore, with that offense of the Chargers, Brady may not be at his best especially if the Chargers will be quick on their pass rush defense. Of course Brady’s weakness is the quick defensive pass rush from other team.

It would be easier for Brady to make the best passes if his protection will be perfect. Furthermore, the running game should be incorporated in this game for the Patriots to keep the offense alive.

Everytime these two teams meet, there’s always a war going on. This time the Patriots will play at home and that they are quiet in their preparation. Surely, the Patriots will have a real test against the defense of Chargers.

Jaguars vs Jets: Defensive battle ahead

The Jacksonville Jaguars seek for another win as they play the New York Jets at the MetLife Stadium on Sunday. The Jaguars captured a win in the season opener against the struggling Titans 16-14.

Jacksonville Jaguars may be looking at the possibility of winning their division this time because of the absence of Peyton Manning in the Colts uniform. Without the Colts, Jaguars will be in a race with the Houston Texans.

In that game against the Titans, most of the damage created by the Jaguars were on the rushing game through running back Maurice Jones Drew who carried the ball 24 times for 91 yards and one touchdown. Drew is the main element of this offense that the team will be having the difficulties to score without him. Furthermore, his backup Deji Karim carried 14 times for 33 yards giving the necessary rest for Jones Drew.

The Jaguars can also make the best of their offense through the passing game as quarterback Luke McCowan performed well for 17 of 24 passes for 175 yards. McCowan was chosen by coach Jack del Rio to start after dropping last year quarterback David Garrard. McCowan somewhat provided the necessary game just for the Jaguars to win the game. However, he needs to play better this time against the intimidating defense of the Jets.

Jaguars obviously played tough defense against the Titans as the team limited quarterback Matt Hasselbeck to only two touchdowns and forcing one interception. Jaguars have to play hard and tough in defense to beat the NY Jets.

The New York Jets made the biggest comeback last week against the Dallas Cowboys, 27-24. It was a tough game for the New York Jets as quarterback Mark Sanchez was sacked four times as he was tremendously hurt though he went on to complete 24 of 44 passes and two touchdowns with one interception. Sanchez has turned this team around as the Jets went on to play for the AFC Championship two times in a row.

Jets will surely make the necessary adjustments on protecting Sanchez so that he can have more time in looking for his targets. Sanchez had been calm at the pocket but this time the Cowboys went on after him.

One of the reasons why the Jets never had that edge against the Cowboys was the running game that created only 45 yards. With the production, the Jets will have another close game that will give the opportunity to the Jaguars.

Sanchez must have to work hard enough to find his receivers Santonio Holmes and Plaxico Burress . He has to make something just for the team to win the game against the Jaguars. Burress had four receptions for 72 yards and a touchdown last week. Sanchez had found another target who will make him a better passer.

Jets have enough defensive players to take care of the running game of the Jaguars. It is the moment for the Jets to show to the world that they are capable of winning against the Jaguars and that they are the best in the AFC.

Packers vs Panthers: Green Bay in a mission

The Carolina Panthers will host the defending champion Green Bay Packers in the second week of the NFL on Sunday. With the Panthers losing the first game, expect the team to bounce back but not without a fight from the defending champion.

Despite of the defeat against the hands of Arizona Cardinals, Carolina Panthers has a future because Heisman Trophy winner Cam Newton exploded passing fro 24 of 37 for 422 yards and two touchdowns. Panthers has a future in the quarterback position through Newton who went on also for a rushing touchdown.

It is too early to give all the credit to Newton but with that performance, the offense of the Panthers will absolutely improve especially in passing. He solidly played wisely as he also rushed eight times for 18 yards. However, his game was not enough to bring the Panthers to victory as the team gave up two touchdowns to the Cardinals in the fourth quarter.

Furthermore, Newton connected well to his receivers especially to wide receiver Steve Smith who caught eight passes for 178 yards, 77 yards the longest. Also, Greg Olsen had four receptions for 78 yards while Brandon Lafell had 70 yards and Jeremy Shockey had 51 yards of receiving to help Newton be comfortable in passing to them.

Offensively the Panthers are capable of moving the chain in every play through the passing game. However, in the rushing game running back Deangelo Williams carried only 12 times for 30 yards. It is necessary for the Panthers to run the ball well so that the defense will not concentrate on the pass.

Coach John Fox will have a lot of things to improve in the running game as the team faces the Packers. If the Panthers will have the running game, then we will have a game to watch. Run can kill the team so that the Packers offense will not be in the field.

On the other hand, the Green Bay Packers look like they are ready for another Super Bowl run when they demolished the New Orleans Saints in a high scoring game. The high powered offense of the Packers had been effective against the Saints with the presence of their quarterback Aaron Rodgers who went on to complete 27 of 35 passes for 312 yards and three touchdowns.

Rodgers favorite target is wide receiver Greg Jennings who caught seven passes for 89 yards including a touchdown. Jordy Nelson also had six receptions for 77 yards while Jermichael Finley had three receptions for 53 yards. Rodgers always found them especially when they needed to move the chain.

However, the greatest problem for the Packers was allowing Drew Brees to have a 419 yards passing. It seemed that the pass rush defense for the Packers didn’t work well enough to contain him. The pass defense will be a work in progress as they face the Panthers. Adjustments must be done in the defensive side to contain Cam Newton not only in passing but also in rushing.

Once the Packers will figure out to make the necessary defensive adjustments, then they will be considered to be back in the Super Bowl again. However, they have to win this game against the Panthers who are hungry for a win. Panthers will have to show to the world that they made the right decision in picking Newton as the No 1 draft pick and Newton must play his best today.

Nebraska will continue to keep their bid in the college football as they meet Washington in one of games in the college football on Saturday. Nebraska is currently ranked No 11 in the nation as the team will collide against a better Washington team.

Fresh from their victory against Fresno State, the Cornhuskers will host Washington in this hotly contested game. Without a doubt the offense of the Cornhuskers will be centered on quarterback Taylor Martinez who completed 10 of 21 passes for 219 yards against the Fresno State. Furthermore Martinez carried the ball 15 times for 155 yards to make a complete performance just for the sake of winning the game.

Nebraska which is now in the Big Ten Conference needs to win this game to make sure that the team still competes with the Big Ten contenders like Michigan State and Wisconsin. With quarterback Martinez who can both run and pass, Nebraska will be difficult for any team to find ways to defend him.
